Leopards and baboons hate each other. Baboons kill leopard cubs if they get chance. They can also ruin a leopard’s hunting activity. If they see a leopard from the tree-top, baboons shout to alert all the other animals nearby.
Out on open ground, a leopard can overpower a single baboon easily. Baboons cannot run too fast. The baboon’s night vision is poor. At night, leopards make no effort to hide or be quiet if they see baboons in a tree. They may clamber through the branches, trying to frighten young baboons into losing their footing and falling to ground or fleeing to a dead-end branch out of panic.
In the daytime, the situation is reversed. Baboons often stay together in groups. The leopard is solitary. A single leopard cannot fight a group of baboons. The leopard will run away.
Baboons can enter and destroy a field of crops. The presence of leopards usually keeps down the number of baboons and wild pigs.
