Leopards have cup-shaped ears which can move in all directions without head movement to pinpoint the exact source of a sound. Their acute hearing, together with their superb night vision, is very important to their successful hunting.
Leopards can hear the slightest rustle of leaves or grasses several yards away and will immediately freeze and stand motionless. They will wait and listen until the exact location and/or sources of the sound is identified. They may be able to tell what kind of animal it is based on the sound of its footsteps.
On the back of each leopard ears, there is a white spot on a black background. This spot, together with the white tip of a leopard’s tail, helps cubs keep track of their mother when they are following her through thick underbrush. A leopards sends different messages by different ways they flip their ears.
