Leopard Fur
Leopards are known for their beautiful spotted fur. The primary color of their fur can range from yellowish-cream to dark gold, depending upon where the animals live. Some leopards living in rainforests of South and Southeast Asia are black. The fur of leopards that live in rain forests is darker than the fur of those that live in grasslands or deserts. Light fur helps the leopards that live in deserts blend in well with the bright colors of their habitats.
Leopards that live in cold climates have longer and thicker fur than do leopards that live in warm climates. Their thick fur helps keep the leopards warm in cold climates.
Leopards are victims of their own beautiful fur. The coats made out of leopard furs are a favorite in the fashion market and are very expensive. Some people are killing leopards just for their furs and other part of their bodies. In some areas, people can make more money selling a single leopard pelt than they could earn working at another job for a whole year. Driven by high profit, poachers are still hunting and killing thousands of leopards a year, even though it is illegal in most of countries to hunt and trade leopard fur.
