Leopard Predator

Since adult leopards are such powerful animals, they rarely have any predators in the wild. Lions, tigers, hyenas, baboons, pythons, and wild dogs, however, may cause some troubles to the leopard or even kill a leopard occasionally.

Though not the biggest animal in the wild, what the leopard lacks in size, it makes up for in strength. If cornered, the leopard can inflict terrible injuries on its enemies with its sharp claws and teeth. Even a single lion or tiger may not want to fight alone with an adult leopard. Since the leopard is a solitary animal, a group of lions, hyenas, baboons, and wild dogs may attack and kill a leopard.

Larger cats, such as tigers or lions, do not usually kill leopards as prey, but they will kill leopards to keep them from hunting prey that they are going after or to protect their own territories. Lions, hyenas, jackals, and eagles often kill leopard cubs.

Lions and hyenas sometimes steal prey from leopards. A leopard usually drags its prey up a tree after a kill. If it does not do this quickly enough, though, lions or hyenas may smell the carcass and arrive at the spot in no time. To avoid any injury, a leopard usually chooses not to confront a group of lions or hyenas.
